Giants make triple swoop

Mansfield Giants have confirmed the signings of 6ft 7ins Richard Bailey, 6ft 3ins Chris Hanbury and former giants big man 6ft 8ins Dave Passmore.

The trio are Head Coach Dan Richards latest signings as he continues revamp his squad for the club's 2012/2013 campaign.

All three players join the club from local rivals Nottingham Hoods and naturally Richards is delighted, 'after securing the core of last years team, my next objective was to add some height.  For the last two years we have been one of the smallest team's in the league and really struggled with rebounding and defending any quality big men.  Passmore and fellow forward Bailey will give the team some extra fire power inside, whilst Chris Hanbury who is a really intelligent player, will provide the team with another quality shooter from behind the arch at the guard spot'.

The Giants are expected to unveil the further signings next week, as well as a major new signing which will hopefully be complete within the next few days.

Giants announce new coaching dream team

Mansfield Giants are pleased to announce head coach Dan Richards will be at the helm again for his fifth consecutive season for the Giants mens team.  Richards will also be joined by long standing assistant Arron White as well as Giants Coach mentor Ian Richards, who has in the past coached the Giants women's team and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the side lines, having won numerous titles in the National League from Division 1 men's to under 13's.  Ex-Giants player Jarrett Akpoveta will also be joining the coaching team due to a hand injury seeing Akpoveta out of action for the last two seasons.  Akpoveta has since turn his attentions from playing to coaching in the Lincoln area, but after the demise of the Lincoln Stars decided to get back involved with the Giants.

Dan Richards first priority was to secure the core of last year’s team.  Both Dan Watts and Gary Collins will be suiting up for the Giants again this season, and also working on the Giants community projects around the area.

Matt Curtis and Diego Benito, both key members of last year’s squad have agreed to play in the fourth coming season. Coach Dan Richards added 'its great to have the core of last years team back.  We really started to play well together towards the end of last season, so hopefully we can continue to build and get stronger, this time from the start and not the end of the season'.

With the season now under three weeks away, keep your eyes peeled for details on more player signings. The Giants are still looking for new sponsors to help with with 2012/2013 campaign.  Anyone wishing to advertise on a local or national basis please call our club hotline: 01623 650770 or email:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Club Bag Pack's

Calling all Giants players, the club has two important bag packs in September to help raise vital funds for the club.  Without this type of fundraising the club wouldn't be able to survive.  Letters are again available at training sessions and all family members are welcome to help out on behalf of the club.

The first bag pack is on Saturday 8th September at Morrisons Store on Sutton Road, opposite Kings Mill Hospital 10-4pm.  The second bag pack is on Saturday 29th September at Tesco's Store on Chesterfield Road, Mansfield, again 10-4pm.  Time allocations have been listed for players to attend, but if you are unable to attend at that time slot, then an alternative one can be sought.

Please hand all forms or raise your interest to Jo Halstead and lets raise some money for the club.
