Giants sign American point guard

Mansfield Giants senior men are pleased to announce the signing of American point guard Chris Gandy.

Gandy, brother of Sheffield Hatters star Steph Gandy played his college basketball at Frank Phillips College, the same college as that ex-Giants player Chris Hackett now coaches at.  Gandy was the teams starting point guard, and for the first time in 30 years went to the National Tournament and produced the winningest record in school history.

After a successful season, Gandy transferred to School Craft College due to family issues, eventually dropping out due to these problems and spending some time away from the game he loves.  Gandy commented " I'm finally back in the swing of things and very excited to play for a great organisation, staff, and team like the Mansfield Giants. We hope and will work hard to have much success this season for the town of Mansfield. I cant wait until September 22nd rolls around and we can get the ball rolling"

Giants head coach Dan Richards added "we are very excited to have Chris join us. He is an extremely fast and exciting player, but what I like most about him is that he makes everyone around him better. He is a great person and a pleasure to have on the team".

Gandy will be involved with the Giants community programme, and will be helping coach some the younger Giants players to pass on his knowledge of the game and give them a few extra tips

Giants Sign Lincoln Trio

As the season draws closer, the Mansfield Giants complete there roster with the signings of Lincoln trio, Franklin Saunders, Chris McIntrye and Ashley Rice.

With the demise of the Lincoln Stars, the trio decided to join the Giants for this years campaign.  Saunders, a 6ft 10ins centre has over sea's experience in Spain and will add extra height and athleticism to the Giants line up. McIntyre, a Scottish native is currently in the RAF is an excellent three point shooter and very smart guard that will give stability to the Giants back court. Whilst Rice is an extremely quick point guard and very good on the ball defender that really likes to get out and run the floor.

Head coach Dan Richards added "we have made three really solid signings here, and I expect them all to contribute to the team.  They have fitted in well with the other guys and really committed to what we are trying to achieve"

Giants make triple swoop

Mansfield Giants have confirmed the signings of 6ft 7ins Richard Bailey, 6ft 3ins Chris Hanbury and former giants big man 6ft 8ins Dave Passmore.

The trio are Head Coach Dan Richards latest signings as he continues revamp his squad for the club's 2012/2013 campaign.

All three players join the club from local rivals Nottingham Hoods and naturally Richards is delighted, 'after securing the core of last years team, my next objective was to add some height.  For the last two years we have been one of the smallest team's in the league and really struggled with rebounding and defending any quality big men.  Passmore and fellow forward Bailey will give the team some extra fire power inside, whilst Chris Hanbury who is a really intelligent player, will provide the team with another quality shooter from behind the arch at the guard spot'.

The Giants are expected to unveil the further signings next week, as well as a major new signing which will hopefully be complete within the next few days.
